The Intermediate hurling championship was run on a league structure with six teams in each group. St. Mary's were in Group A with Shamrocks, Cappoquin, Colligan, St. Mollerans and Tramore.

Colligan Rockies Intermediate hurlers came out on top in this enjoyable championship encounter at the Fraher field on Friday evening last by a single point, having saved an early semi-penalty per John Hallinan who subsequently scored some magnificent long range points from placed balls.
Colligan led at the interval by 0-6 to 0-4 and with two quick points on the turnover they went four points clear. Still St. Mary's kept plugging away and with John Hallinan and JP Fitzpatrick finding the target they were back on level terms by the 49 minute at 0-9 each.
In the 57th minute a John Quinlan point appeared to be edging clear, still John Hallinan pointed another long range free to reduce the scoreline to one point. Two late St. Mary's attacks were repulsed by John Dunford and Kevin McGrath as the Rockies held out.

Semi final of County Intermediate Championship:

Championship favourites Erins Own snatched a dramatic victory in the Intermediate Hurling Semi-Final at Fraher Field on Saturday afternoon last, when Noel Kelly pointed a 67 metre free in the 62nd minute of a thrilling encounter which kept the rival supporters on tender hooks right up to the final whistle. St. Mary's were desperately unlucky to lose out here as on the run of play they deserved at least the share of the spoils. They started in whirlwind fashion as Kieran Hallahan pointed in 30 seconds and 30 seconds later, Aiden Fitzpatrick and Eamonn Butler left them 3 points clear with six minutes played. Erins Own's first score did not come until the 11th minute when Noel Kelly pointed a free, 0-3 to 0-1. St. Mary's were hurling well as J.P. Fitzpatrick added four points to leave them 0-7 to 0-2 in front with 22 minutes played. Noel Kelly (0-3) and Paul Walsh came back for Erin's Own to leave the score 0-7 to 0-6 with 27 minutes played. J.P. Fitzpatrick & Noel Kelly exchanged points to leave 0-8 to 0-7 at the interval.
Early goal
On the turnover, St. Mary's were again quickly in to their stride as Eamonn Butler's excellent strike found the net. Erin's Own responded by switching Damien Byrne to center half forward and he quickly pointed a free to leave the score 1-8 to 0-8. It was now nip and tuck as Noel Kelly & J.P. Fitzpatrick each (twice) hit the target for points (1-10 to 0-10). Eamonn Lonergan & Noel Kelly each pointed as did J.P. Fitzpatrick and Noel Kelly to leave the score 1-12 to 0-12. Erin's Own introduced Johnny Connors into the frey in the 48th minute. J.P. Fitzpatrick pointed a 65 in the 50th minute (1-13 to 0-12). Significantly St. Mary's were not to raise another flag in the remaining period which was played out amidst a welter of excitement. Damien Byrne and Johnny Connors pointed in the 55th 58th minutes and left the score 1-13 to 0-15. In the 60th minute, Erin's Own won a free which Noel Kelly sent to Damien Byrne who pointed to level it up 1-13 to 0-16.
The game was in to extra time and in the 62nd minute Noel Kelly landed a point from a 67 metre free to clinch a very hard earned win for them. St. Mary's displayed marvellous spirit and played some excellent hurling into the bargain and were most unlucky not to have at least earned a second chance.

St. Mary's Intermediate hurlers were trailing by a margin of 0-8 as this county Intermediate hurling championship game entered the final quarter at the Fraher field and in truth, the Touraneena side looked dead and buried at this stage as they had been playing second fiddle to a rampant Kilmacthomas. Kilmacthomas lead by 0-8 to 0-6 at the interval having played with a strong breeze and when Bobby Byrne finished to the net after good work by their best player, Andy Rockett who scored 0-8, the mid-county side appeared to be on their way to a shock result. The engine room of St. Mary's scoring efforts was unquestionably J.P. Fitzpatrick at center field as his pin-point accuracy from placed balls kept them in touch. In all, he scored 1-8 of their total. Playing at Gaelic Park in New York the previous Sunday and at Thurles on last Wednesday, his steady play told in the final analysis.
In the 48th minute a long ball in from J.P. Fitzpatrick was finished to the net by Tom Queally. Then in the 53rd minute, county Junior player John Hallinan who was switched to attach, was fouled going through and J.P. Fitzpatrick blasted the resultant free to the net. Three minutes later another long ball in from J.P. Fitzpatrick was collected by full-forward Eamonn-Dec Lonergan who turned his marker and cut in along the end line to finish to the net and for good measure J.P. Fitzpatrick pointed a 90 yard free to complete St. Mary's Lazarus-Like comeback.

At Fraher field on Thursday evening last, St. Mary's recorded a good win over Ring in a keenly contested intermediate hurling championship clash. Ring led at half time by 0-5 to 0-4 with Eugene Curran (0-3), Carach & Nioclas Og on target for them. While Ian Dunford, Aiden Fitzpatrick and Maurice Cliffe (0-2) finding the range for St. Mary's. The first goal came 3 minutes from the restart when Michael Hayes found the net to put Ring four points clear. St. Mary's went back in front in the 38th minute when Declan Kiely's long range shot went all the way to the net. D O' Connor had Ring's second goal in the 42nd minute to leave the score Ring 2-5, St. Mary's 1-7.
One point still separated the sides following a double exchange of points when Aiden Fitzpatrick goaled for St. Mary's in the 54th minute with Maurice Cliffe adding a point three minutes later to leave Mary's the winners by three points.

St. Mary's from Touraneena came out on top in this fiercely competitive Intermediate hurling championship game at Fraher Field on Sunday last. This was a typical local derby encounter full of endeavour and passion. St. Mary's had to win to keep their championship hopes alive and there were understand scenes of jubilation when the final whistle sounded. Meanwhile, Colligan must now win their final game against Ring to stay in contention. Colligan raced in to a six point lead by the 11th minute with points per Benny McGrath (0-3), Jimmy Beresford (0-3) and David Ryan (0-1) who lined out at center field here. At this stage one would not have given St. Mary's much of a chance, yet the introduction of John Hallinan at left-corner back did much to steady their ship, so to speak. Then, St. Mary's went on a scoring blitz and shot 8 points without a reply, through Declan Kiely (0-3), Eamonn-Dec Lonergan (0-2), J.P. Fitzpatrick (0-2) and Aiden Fitzpatrick (0-1) to lead 0-8 to 0-6 at the interval.
On the turnover, points from Jimmy Beresford and Benny McGrath levelled the score before substitute Kevin Casey got a touch with his hurley to a high ball and flicked it to the back of the net in the 37th minute to put Colligan back in front. In the 40th minute, J.P. Fitzpatrick produced a moment of magical skill as he got passed the Colligan defence to flick the ball to the net to level the score once again at 1-8 to 1-8. David Ryan and Benny McGrath scored points to regain the lead. In the 52nd minute, a high ball from J.P. Fitzpatrick was latched on to by Kieran Hallahan who drove it to the net to leave the score 2-8 to 1-10. Seconds later, Jimmy Beresford pointed a free to level it up for the fourth time. In the 57th minute, J.P. Fitzpatrick pointed a free to leave it 2-9 to 1-11. Due to delays arising from injuries, 63 minutes were played with St. Mary's goal-keeper, James Connors, effecting a vital save. While Seanie Kearns, Declan Kiely, J.P. Fitzpatrick, Tomas Condon, Eamonn-Dec Lonergan, Kieran Hallahan and Aiden Fitzpatrick starring for the winners. While John Dunford, Tom Kiely, Pat Dunford, Alan Walsh, Roger Casey, Jimmy Beresford, Benny McGrath and Kevin Casey were best for the Rockies.
